After years of yearning, the students, faculty, and staff of the University of British Columbia in Vancouver now have a Chipotle on campus.
The U.S.-based quick-serve chain known for its bowls and burritos assembled to order will open the doors to what is now its 17th location in British Columbia on Tuesday, September 24.
The Chipotle franchise occupies the former Tacomio location on the UBC campus at 6025 University Blvd. Tacomio, an independent Vancouver casual Mexican restaurant, closed its final two locations late last year.
Chipotle's UBC location will be open daily from 10:45 a.m. to 10 p.m. and the outpost features a walk-up window for customers to pick-up digital orders.
Chipotle has three locations in Vancouver, and many others across the Metro Vancouver area. However, this will be the first at UBC, though students have long requested one, making their case across social media.
This April 1, UBC's Campus Nutrition got students' hopes up by posting that the well-known burrito and taco chain would be coming to campus.
In July, a rep for the brand confirmed by email with V.I.A. that it was "pleased to confirm we are currently scheduled to open a new location in Vancouver this fall."
