After more than 25 years on Cambie Street, a Malaysian restaurant (with Thai and Indonesian influences) has closed. However, a new business offering the same cuisine is set to open soon in its place.
The signs for Tropika at 2975 Cambie St. are still up, but new ones have been put up as well for the incoming Sedap Plus.
Tropika opened at the location, near the intersection with West 14th Ave., in 1999.
Both Tropika and Sedap Plus specialize in Malaysian food; "sedap" translates to "delicious."
Tropika's menu featured items like prawn soups, deep-fried crab, and pompano (a fish from South Asia).
Sedap will carry forward more than the general cuisine. According to the new restaurant's Google profile, the Tropika chef is behind Sedap.
Aside from the Google profile, the new restaurant does not have a digital footprint yet.
The new restaurant is set to open May 1, 2025, according to Google.
