Vancouver police are investigating an intentionally set fire that destroyed a car parked in an underground parkade on March 11, 2025

Police have taken over an investigation after a fire destroyed a car in downtown Vancouver Tuesday morning, March 11.

Vancouver firefighters were called to a fire in an underground parkade on Granville Street between Robson and Georgia streets at 7:30 a.m., VFRS spokesperson Matthew Truedeau tells V.I.A.

A single car was found on fire; crews quickly put it out.

No injuries were reported.

"Fire investigators determined the fire was incendiary and called VPD to investigate the set fire," Trudeau tells V.I.A.

The term "incendiary" refers to intentionally set fires. VFRS fire investigators determined a person set the fire, but did not determine the intent. Trudeau notes "arson" is a term used by police and not something VFRS fire investigators determine.

A police investigation has begun into the incident, VPD spokesperson Sgt. Steve Addison tells V.I.A.

"We are in the early stages of this investigation and don’t have any additional information at this time," he states in an email to V.I.A.
