Metro Vancouver's Michael J. Fox joined Coldplay at Glastonbury to play a couple of songs including "Fix You."

Michael J. Fox had a special moment on stage this weekend, sharing the spotlight with Coldplay at the massive Glastonbury festival.

Coldplay were the Saturday night headliners for the festival, one of the largest in the world; as they came near the end of their set they announced a surprise guest to the stage.

Fox.

The actor, who grew up in Burnaby and still spends time in the area, has become a major advocate for Parkinson's research over the last couple of decades. He was diagnosed with the brain condition in 1991 and announced it publicly in 1998.

At Glastonbury Fox took to the stage in a wheelchair to play "Humankind" and "Fix You" at the end of Coldplay's set. He joined the band on guitar, fitting given his role as Marty McFly in the iconic Back to the Future film series; it's a roll Coldplay's Chris Martin noted during the set.

"The main reason why we're in a band is 'cause of watching Back to the Future, so thank you to our hero forever, and one of the most amazing people on Earth, Mr. Michael J. Fox," Martin said at the end of Fox's time on stage.

Fox capped off a series of guest appearances during Coldplay's show, including Glastonbury founder Sir Michael Eavis, rapper Little Simz and others.

The whole Coldplay show can be watched on BBC until July 10; Michael J. Fox is introduced just after the one-and-a-half hour mark in the show (just after a song to Eavis).

Fox has posted about the experience as well, on Instagram, and offering a couple shots of his time at Glastonbury.

"Many thanks to Chris, Will, Johnny, Guy and Phil. Oh yeah in case you were wondering…it was f*cking mind blowing," reads part of the post.
