A new free festival is coming to Vancouver this month.
The first ever Flats Fest will take place in Vancouver's South Flats neighbourhood, on the plaza outside 565 Great Northern Way, on August 26 from 2 to 6 p.m. featuring numerous performances, live entertainment, and local vendors from food trucks to artisans.
A number of Canadian artists will perform at the event, including Hayley Wallis, Cody Lawless, and Kaiiitechnis (written "KAIIITECHNIS").
An artisan market will display an array of handmade goods from small and local businesses. There will also be free hand massages, polishing services, and cupcakes by the Vancouver Community College.
Attendees can also participate in a community custom art project called Paintillio which will also feature Coast salish artowrk.
For booze and bites, there will be a variety of food trucks and a beer garden. Nemesis coffee will also be offering a Flats Fest feature cocktail.
There will also be a family-friendly Kids Zone with free ice cream from local shop Rain or Shine, live demonstrations by Science World, a virtual reality car racing game, craft stations, a bouncy castle, balloon art, glitter tattoos, and more.
"The South Flats is home to many talented residents and creative businesses, and we are thrilled the community has come together to launch the first, of what we hope, is a continued series of events in this neighbourhood,” says Jaclyn Murphy, Director of Asset Management for Low Tide Properties which is helping organize the festival.
