Vancouver police say a local senior chased a naked intruder out of her home with a shovel.
On Tuesday, Dec.19 just before 9:30 p.m., an unclothed man allegedly broke into a 71-year-old woman's home near Cambie and West 41st Avenue by "smashing a window with a pointed metal rod," according to the Vancouver Police Department (VPD).
The woman jumped out of bed, grabbed a shovel, and chased the suspect out of her house while he swung the rod at her. Neighbours called 911 and police discovered that she had cornered the suspect in his vehicle.
The suspect has been charged and remains in custody.
Const. Tania Visintin said this was likely a "frightening experience" for the victim, adding that "she did everything she had to do to protect herself and her home."
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the VPD described the woman as "a very brave person."
