Cheap flights to Europe from Vancouver: Fly from YVR to 5 top cities

Most of the flights cost hundreds less than typical prices.

Travellers looking for cheap flights to Europe from Vancouver can choose from a handful of options for visiting top cities in the coming weeks.

Flight prices to Europe soar during the summer months, with tourists flocking to coveted beach destinations and bustling historic metropolises. However, trips over the winter cost significantly less.

From the City of Light to the Emerald Isle, the canals of Amsterdam to the pastel-coloured buildings of Lisbon, Vancouverites can find surprisingly low-cost options across the pond for trips in the new year.

Have a look at the routes offering the best bang for your buck in January 2025.

Flights from Vancouver to London, England

England's capital city draws tourists in droves, offering a bounty of coveted attractions, including Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, the London Eye, and the National Gallery, as well as expansive shopping options, a vibrant nightlife scene, and much more.

Return flights from Vancouver International Airport (YVR) to London Heathrow Airport (LHR) can easily cost upwards of $1,100, particularly during peak travel times. However, flights in the new year are just over half that price.

A flight departing from YVR on Jan. 14, 2025, and returning on Jan. 21, from LHR costs $698 booked directly through WestJet or $674 booked through third-party supplier, FlightHub (see slides two and three).

This itinerary includes two stops on the outbound trip - Kelowna for three hours and Calgary for 90 minutes - and one in Calgary for about two hours on the return.

Travellers who only want to make a single stop in either direction can expect to pay about $50 more. Prices drop after Jan. 12,  and stay low through Feb. 12.

According to Google Flights, this price is considered "low" for the economy or $287 cheaper than usual.

Flights from Vancouver to Lisbon, Portugal

Lisbon, Portugal is one of the world's fastest-growing tourist destinations, attracting tourists in droves to its sun-soaked streets.

A flight that departs YVR on Tuesday, Aug. 27 and returns from the Humberto Delgado Airport (LIS) on Jan. 30, costs $908 booked through British Airways, $587 with American Airlines, $568 with third-party supplier FlightHub, or $558 with Gotogate (see slides four to six)

This itinerary includes a two-hour and 40-minute layover in London and a two-hour and 10-minute stop in Madrid on the outbound trip. On the return, travellers only stop for an hour and 40 minutes in London.

According to Google Flights, this price is considered "low" for economy or $298 cheaper than usual. Multiple options at this price are available through the final weeks of January.

Flights from Vancouver to Dublin, Ireland

Located three hours from Dublin, the Irish capital, the stunning Cliffs of Moher is Ireland's most visited tourist attraction. These spectacular cliffs rise an incredible 702 feet at their highest point, just north of O'Brien's Tower. Many people spend half a day viewing the majestic rock faces.

A flight departing Vancouver on Jan. 12, 2025, and returning from Dublin Airport (DUB) on Jan. 27, costs $756 when booked directly through Icelandair or as little as $711 via a third-party supplier (see slides seven and eight).

The itinerary only has one stop at the Keflavík International Airport (KEF) in Iceland for an hour and 40 minutes on the outbound trip and just over three on the return.

According to Google Flights, this price is considered "low" for economy or $147 cheaper than usual. Tickets range in these prices for the remainder of January and most of February.

Paris is home to much more than the Eiffel Tower. Visitors can explore one of the world's top art galleries at the Louvre, the Catacombs, Montmartre, Arc de Triomphe, a nearly-restored Notre Dame, and much more.

Best of all, tickets from Vancouver International Airport (YVR) to Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG) are the lowest-priced tickets to Europe.

For example, a flight departing Vancouver on Jan. 22, and returning from Paris on Jan. 30, costs $738 when booked directly through WestJet or as little as $581 via a third-party supplier (see slides nine and 10).
