Metro Vancouver travellers who plan to get away over spring break still have opportunities to get nearly last-minute tickets.
Spring break officially occurs from March 17 to March 28, according to the Vancouver School Board. While that still gives travellers roughly a month to secure tickets, prices over the popular travel period soar closer to the busy travel period.
Travellers purchasing cheap spring break flights in the lowest fare class should consider what they plan to bring before booking tickets. Canada's largest airlines have dropped carry-on luggage for their cheapest tickets, meaning you must pay for checked bags if you plan to bring anything. If you want a carry-on and a checked piece, you'll want to book the next fare class.
While several flights headed south of the border don't include a steep price tag, the costs to stay in U.S. cities are notably high due to the exchange rate. Similarly, some people may wish to stick to travel destinations in Canada or Mexico due to the current political climate.
Have a look at some low-cost flights from Vancouver during spring break 2025.
Calgary
While Cowtown may not scream "Spring Break," Alberta's biggest city has plenty of top attractions to explore including the Calgary Zoo, the Calgary Tower, the National Music Centre, and much more. Also, Banff National Park is only an hour's drive from the bustling city centre, offering one of the world's most awe-inspiring outdoor experiences including the bright turquoise Lake Louise.
Round-trip, direct flights over spring break are a steal, costing just over $100 including all taxes. For example, a flight departing Vancouver on Friday, March 21 and returning from Calgary on Friday, March 28 costs $124 (see slide two).
Toronto
Canada's largest city boasts seemingly endless things to see and do, as well as places to dine, shop, party, and relax.
Unfortunately, prices at the start of March are significantly lower than over the holiday period. For example, a flight departing on Monday, March 3 and returning on Monday, March 12 costs $177.
Over spring break, the cheapest option is still affordable, although it is considered "typical" for economy, according to Google Flights.
The lowest-priced Flair Airlines option departs from Vancouver on Wednesday, March 19, and returns on Wednesday, March 26 and costs $236 including all taxes (see slide three).
Kelowna
Locals looking to travel to B.C. destinations don't need a car to keep costs low.
Flair Airlines offers flights to Kelowna for under $70, including over the busy spring break period.
For example, a flight departing Vancouver on Thursday, March 20 and returning from Kelowna on Thursday, March 27 costs $67 including all taxes (see slide four).
While this price may seem extraordinarily low, it's average for the popular route thanks to Flair's ultra-low prices. However, travellers should buy tickets early if they plan to travel over spring break as tickets may soar over the holiday.
Palm Springs
Round-trip, direct flights from Vancouver to the desert destination with Flair Airlines start for as little as $125 in April. This price is considered "low" for economy class fares, according to Google Flights.
Over spring break, cheaper options involve a stop. For example, a flight departing Vancouver on Sunday, March 16 and returning on Tuesday, March 25 costs $272 (see slide five). This price is roughly considered low for economy or roughly $499 cheaper than usual, according to Google Flights.
Travellers looking for a nonstop option over the busy travel period won't find low-cost options, with prices ranging between $600 and $800. However, if they can afford to travel a little later, a direct flight departing Vancouver on Tuesday, March 25 and departing from Palm Springs on Thursday, April 3 costs $151.
Honolulu (for late travel)
Round-trip, direct flights from Vancouver to Honolulu cost an exorbitant amount over spring break but travellers who can afford to stretch their stay into the first week of April costs hundreds less.
For example, a direct flight departing Vancouver on Monday, March 31 and returning on Thursday, April 3 costs $324 including all taxes (see slide six). This price is considered "low" for the economy or roughly $664 cheaper than usual, according to Google Flights.
Cancun (for early travel)
Travellers looking to indulge in the sparkling white sand beach in Mexico's most popular tourist destination for less may want to see if they can get their kids out of school a week early. Alternatively, travellers looking to get away around spring break who don't have to travel during the official period can save hundreds on the cost of a ticket.
Most of Cancun's accommodations are located in the popular hotel zone, known as Zona Hotelera. It is on a man-made strip of land outside the big city and is home to nearly 100 hotels.
A Flair flight departing Vancouver on Monday, March 10 and returning from Cancun on Monday, March 17 costs $321 including all taxes (see slide seven). Both flights are direct.
Prices are considered "low" for economy or roughly $167 cheaper than usual, according to Google Flights. However, they are also dramatically lower than prices over Canadian spring break. For example, flights over the break departing over the weekends range between $750 and $880, while weekday tickets range between $450 and $650.
