Travellers looking to fly from Vancouver to Sydney, Australia in 2025 can cut their ticket price in half by adding a stopover in the Aloha State.
Trips to the Land Down Under typically cost a pretty penny from Vancouver, with round-trip options ranging between $1,600 and $2,250.
According to Google Flights, the cheapest time to book flights from Vancouver to Sydney is about four to seven months before takeoff. Booked well before, travellers might score a deal closer to $1,400.
However, thrifty travellers can get the best bang for their buck — and enjoy a second bucket list destination — by adding a stopover in Honolulu.
How to save on a flight from Vancouver to Australia by adding a stopover in Hawaii
Travellers must book two separate tickets to score the deal on the trip to Australia.
A round-trip ticket with WestJet departing Vancouver International Airport (YVR) on March 6 and returning from Daniel K. Inouye International Airport (HNL) on March 19 costs $410 booked through third-party supplier CheapOair or $593 directly through WestJet; both flights are direct (see slides two and three).
Several other third-party suppliers are also offering tickets under $430 on the YVR-to-NL route.
A round-trip ticket with Jetstar departing from HNL on March 10 and returning from Sydney International Airport (SYD) on March 17 costs $522 (see slide four).
The price for the trip with both tickets works out to $932 ($410 + $522). This itinerary includes four nights in Hawaii on the outbound portion of the trip and a night in Hawaii on the return.
