Looks like Vancouver will be sun-kissed for one last summer holiday long weekend.
The weather forecasts for various neighbourhoods across the city show plenty of sunshine and rising temperatures between Friday (Aug. 30) and Monday (Labour Day), according to Weatherhood.
V.I.A.'s Downtown Centre station, located by the Vancouver Art Gallery, forecasts a high of 23 C on Friday under clear skies. The temperature will rise to 25 C on Saturday, and up to 26 C on Sunday, with a bit of cloud coming in. While Monday shows a mix of sun and cloud, the temperature in the heart of the city should still peak at 21C. So far it looks like there's a chance of rain, but not until overnight into Tuesday.
That pattern is similar elsewhere across Vancouver. Weatherhood's UBC station shows Friday should hit 22 C, and both Saturday and Sunday are forecast to see a high of 24 C during the day, dropping to a forecasted high of 21 C on the holiday Monday. For back to school Tuesday, the UBC campus will likely see a high of 20 C with just a slight chance (11 per cent) of rain during the day.
Mount Pleasant is forecast to reach 25 C on Friday and increase by one degree each day, topping out the sunny, warm streak on Sunday with a high of 27 C under mostly sunny skies.
To the north, V.I.A.'s Weatherhood station in Stanley Park is calling for a high of 23 C Friday, 25 C Saturday, and 26 C Sunday, dropping to 21 C on Monday.
One of the warmest spots in the city this Labour Day long weekend will be South Vancouver. Temps could hit 25 C today and rise to 27 C Saturday, peaking at 28 C Sunday. South Vancouver shows only a 3 per cent chance of rain on Monday, with a forecasted high of 23 C during the day in the area (see slide 3).
Killarney, however, will be the warmest on Friday. The neighbourhood is forecast to reach 26 C today, according to Weatherhood.
Further inland, some areas could see highs edge up to 30 C or 31 C, according to Environment Canada meteorologist Ken Dosanjh, who spoke with V.I.A. earlier this week about the current warming trend and the cooling off the region will experience starting on Labour Day.
Overall, after the clouds and cooler temps forecast for Monday and Tuesday, Weatherhood shows a return to temperatures in the mid- to upper-20s for Vancouver with sunny skies.
