A Vancouver metal band will be playing a show later this month to raise funds for the Downtown Eastside Women's Centre(DEWC).
On July 29, New Age Doom will perform in Gastown at a pop-up store called Vancouver Community Retail.
The band has done multiple performances previously where all the proceeds went to the DEWC who are not far from where the band members stay.
"We really love DEWC and recognise them for doing amazing for doing amazing work for the community," said Eric Breitenbach, the drummer for New Age Doom.
The metal band, which came together in 2018, is known for having a number of collaborators from across the world including Norway, Jamaica and the U.S.
"Our band is a platform for experimentation and collaboration," said guitarist Greg Valou.
New Age Doom has also collaborated with local artists to release some unconventional merchandise such as a plant-based cheese spread called Habanero Supernova.
"Instead of making t-shirts and stickers, we will make cream cheese," Valou to V.I.A.
Recently, the band set up on the street in Gastown near the Steam Clock to make some noise to promote the upcoming fundraiser show.
Proceeds for the DEWC will be raised through donations and supplies needed by the women's centre, both collected at the show; there is no ticket pre-sale.
The doors for the show on July 29 will open at 7 p.m. and New Age Doom will begin performing around 8 p.m.
"Expect it to be quite loud and very intense," said Valou.
